Interview | Rebecca Torres

Recently I got to meet the lovely Rebecca Torres, a fabulous Scottish Designer. Having studied Fashion Design and Manufacturing at Cardonald College before going on to study Fashion Business at Caledonian University, she is the founder and designer behind the self titled label. Rebecca specialises in the use of luxurious sports led fabrics and is renowned for her ability to accentuate and empower the female form creating garments featuring enhanced fit, stretch and comfort.

Rebecca’s designs are truly stunning and beautiful! Her dresses are one of a kind and as she takes her collection forward into swimwear I got the chance to get a sneak peak and ask her a few questions about herself, her brand and what’s next. mode city 3 RT

  1. What made you want to get into fashion design?

When I was younger I would always sew and create small pieces for myself and it just grew from there. I come from a family that has a history of design and garment design so it just came naturally.

  1. What inspired your collection?

As the designer I take a lot of my inspiration from science fiction, artists and architecture. Coming from a family with architects and graphic designers I have a strong influence on shape, colour and clean lines which I feel is evident in my work and with this collection.

  1. How does this collection differ from your previous designs?

The signature style of our brand is very much sports luxe so moving our brand into swimwear has been a huge passion of mine and a natural progression for the brand. I feel as a designer I can explore much more into my use of print and colour as well as the design of the garment.

  1. Who are your favourite designers?

I have a lot of people I admire within this industry but my favourite designer is Mary Katrantzou as her prints and shapes are amazing and I think with her coming from a architure back ground the detail in everything she does is so clear.

  1. Who would be in your dream front row?

In my dream front row I would have people like Cara Delevingne, Lupita Nyong”o, Jodie Williams and Katarina Johnson-Thompson who I think are great role models.

  1. What’s next for you and your brand?

With our debut swimwear collection being showcased at Mode City & TLE this year I would like to take time to make this transition into swimwear a perfect match, But in the future I can see us moving into more sportswear and that has also been a long ambition of ours.
