Cleaning makeup brushes is a task I never look forward to, I don’t think anyone does. However, I few months ago I came across a new makeup brushing technique that takes my brushes from makeup filled messes to like brand new in no fewer than 20 minutes to do all my brushes.
With the success of this method I decided to share it with you in hope you will try the method and get beautifully, like new makeup brushes after washing as well.
What you will need:
- Garb a small plate and mix a large amount of washing up liquid with a tiny amount of oil (yes, I said oil).
- Makeup brush cleaner or Baby Shampoo (whatever your preference is)
- Makeup brushes
The method:
- Take a makeup brush and wet it slightly under a warm tap.
- Mix the makeup brush in the mix of washing up liquid and oil until the brush is covered in a coat of the mixture.
- Wash off the mixture under warm water and squeeze until the water runs dry.
- Wash makeup brush with the brush cleaner or shampoo
- Put brush aside to dry
- Repeat steps one to five until all brushes are done.
I love this method and would highly recommend it!
What are your makeup brush cleaning tips?
I use baby shampoo to wash mine atm but have never heard the washing up liquid and oil tip, I’ll definitely be trying that one as I find washing them such a massive chore!!

I tend to use whatever shampoo I have lying around, though some work better than others. Usually a shampoo with argan or camellia oils in it gets my brushes nice and fresh. I’ve definitely been guilty once or twice of having bought a new brush because I can’t be bothered cleaning the ones I have though! :/
I definitely like using what I already have rather than buying specialist cleaners…the washing up liquid sounds like a good tip, I think I’ll give that a go.
…better go and do them now!

I’m super lazy when it comes to washing my brushes! I’ve never heard of using washing up liquid & oil as I usually go straight to the baby shampoo!
